The National under-21 netballers' trip to the Cook Islands just got a little easier.

The Jamaica Netball Association, aided by various sponsors (including the pride of North Street), hosted a fund-raiser for the team last Friday. It was named The Sunshine Evening and was held at the Assembly Hall of the University of the West Indies. The funds will go towards sponsoring the team looking to compete in the World Youth Championships next year.

Something for everybody

The programme was varied, which was great because it meant something for everybody. From classical music to reggae, dynamic singers and glimpses of the latest dance moves, it was all there. Among the performers were the Unique Vision Band, Noreta Lewis, the always popular Pam Hall and Professor Celia Christie.

Members of the youth team showed their modelling skills, coming out in gymwear, swimsuits and clothes everybody can wear. Patrons got to interact by participating in trivia games as well as openly enjoying the performances. MC Dervan Malcolm also kept the programme moving with his usual wit.

But let's not forget this was all to make money, and an auction was held. Items including artwork, had guests raising their bids and, by extension, their support for the girls as they head to the championships.
