The Editor, Sir:
I am a Jamaican living in the USA and I am also an ex-member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. I make it a part of my daily routine to read the Jamaica Gleaner online every day. Why? I dearly love my country and I want to see it rise out of the corruption and be the Jamaica I used to know.
Being only 46 years old, I consider it not long ago I was able to walk from my house to our little town and enjoy a real nice party or stage show. Now, when I visit, I can't even walk on my little street and say hello to the people I knew since I was a child for fear of being shot and killed for my hard-earned money or a piece of cheap jewellery complementing my outfit.
Can you imagine not driving every inch of your own beautiful land just because of fear? I visit every year and I am really very angry with our politicians whom we elect to lead us. Please step back, take a long hard look at the situation, do something now before too late, is our cry. Do you want Jamaica to self-destruct like Haiti?
I am, etc.,
