Cavendish banana
In supporting the recommendation of Mr Taylor of Manchioneal in The Gleaner of May 24, I strongly suggest that the Cavendish, aka China or short banana variety, be utilised. This variety of banana is highly resistant to leaf spot and no spraying is required. It has a good root system and mulching instead of fertiliser may be used with good effect.
The Cavendish reproduces rapidly and will grow successfully in any area of Jamaica. Nurseries, of necessity, would have to be established to accommodate farmers, at a price.

Praedial penalty
In order to reduce praedial larceny at Jamaican farms you can try the following:
(1) Develop a system where if you are caught stealing you are punished by having to do free labour on someone's farm for a specified number of weeks, or even three months, to discourage stealing, or you have to compensate the person from whom you stole the items double what you stole. If you steal one goat then you have to compensate with two goats. (2) Set up food banks.
