Vox POP
published: Thursday | June 5, 2008

United States presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Tuesday defeated Hillary Clinton to seal the Democratic nomination to contest the November 4 elections against Republican John McCain. Yesterday, The Gleaner asked several local sector leaders: "Do you think Barack Obama is the right choice for the Democrats?"

Wayne Cummings

President of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association:

It is a very interesting time and a wonderful thing. He has certainly shown clear leadership and has taken on a geopolitical view that seems to have been devoid in the US in the past, and the possibility of ending a war that is unpopular. If he were successful we would be in for a very interesting time.

Roylan Barrett

Custos of Trelawny:

He is a most positive influence; we are sick and tired of the war and corruption. I hope he will come to Jamaica to help motivate our young people and will take Hillary Clinton as his running mate.

Robert Russell

Chairman of the Tourism Product Development Company:

It has given new meaning to racial equality, it has certainly given a number of people, who thought they did not have a chance to achieve, the realisation that nothing is impossible.
