Do you think dancehall music has been contributing to violence in school?

Gary Miller, 32, assistant promoter

Yes, when you think about what most of the dancehall lyrics are saying, they come directly from violence. Most of the guys use these artistes as role models and all they do is sit down and talk about it every day.

Denise Ricketts,40, unemployed

No, because violence comes from the individual, it is a personal thing. Everybody has a spirit and the spirit deals with other stuff, so it doesn't contribute to violence.

Chad Jarrett,42, technician

Yes, because what we hear is what we normally do and artistes do not have anything good to tell people, so the students should not listen to them.

Diana Morris, 17, student

Yes, there are a lot of songs out there that influence the young boys to do things that are not appropriate, as they encourage violence.

Ina Smith, 60, retired

Yes, the music that they are playing today is not good material for children. They contain violence and children should not listen to it. They should be gentler.
