A matter of choice
published: Thursday | May 29, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

There is nothing for Jamaica to gain from changing the law to suit those of us who chose to adopt the laws of another country, and swear allegiance to that country. Those who feel so deeply that they should serve Jamaica should consider where their allegiance truly lies.

Make a choice. Where do you want to be? Who do you want to serve? Should a whole nation change its constitution to suit us, or, should those of us who chose to leave that nation in the past now change our allegiance back to the land of our birth to suit our country? That is, if we now choose to return and serve.

It's all about our choices, our individual choices. Why should the country have to choose? That is not fair to the people who stayed. Either because they choose to stay ... or because they did not get the opportunity to leave.

I am, etc.,
