The Editor, Sir:I was reading an article on gay rights in Jamaica - why are you so concerned about those issues when you have even bigger ones? I can say that I was brought up to be homophobic, but as I have come to understand God more, I see that it's not the gay person we should hate, but what he does.
But, in saying that we all sin and fall short, we all need to understand that Jamaica wants to remain a Christian country. I do feel for Bruce Golding because he knows that if he was to give gays the rights that they want, there would be far more crime in Jamaica.
Saving the other race
The big picture is, as long as you black Jamaicans continue to kill each other you are saving the other race whose wish is that you were not created.
It does not matter if you are straight or gay, slavery is not over, it just changed its strategy. So, help your community and deal with the issues that are more important, such as education, crime prevention and many more small but serious problems.
I am, etc.,
