THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am resolute that teaching is indisputably the bedrock of all other professions. Without the existence and services of our teachers, the nation would become dormant, backward, uncivilised, hostile and underdeveloped.
I urge the Government to adequately compensate the country's educators. I urge them to provide us with the necessary resources and support needed to carry out our jobs more effectively. We are diligent workers who have the nation's future at heart but are too often treated as mediocre, severely affecting the morale of some of my colleagues.
Let us unite
This may be the reason so many of our best teachers have migrated or have changed their profession. I am not going to walk in that route. I value my profession, along with many of my other colleagues, and feel compelled to serve with excellence and therefore appeal to the minister of education the Honourable Andrew Holness, to collaborate with us in making our education system more progressive.
Let us work together to effect positive changes in our education system, demand that our salaries and benefits be increased significantly, and encourage the Government to demand accountability from us.
I am, etc.,
