Cribbean Classic win CTL Portmore domino league
Caribbean Classic from Portmore Lane dethroned defending champions Hurricane in the CTL-sponsored Portmore/St Catherine domino league at Caymanas Park last Sunday, winning the final 300-288.
The large crowd on hand saw Hurricane go into an early lead in a bid to retain the trophy, but Caribbean Classic fought back strongly to lead 152-150 at half time.
After the interval, Hurricane from Dunbeholden stepped up their game to regain the lead and opened up 12 points on their opponents. But Caribbean Classic gradually clawed their way back over the final 50 points, gaining the ascendancy in the latter stages to win by 12 points.
The MVP pair for Caribbean Classic was Rohan Wong and Lynden McCalla, while other worthwhile contributions came from Gregory 'Scattershot' James and partner Lloyd 'Mango' Brown, Keith Fox and Leroy Bernard, Rupert Pryce and Dennis James. Winning captain was Javelin James.
The presentation of trophy and prize money to Caribbean Classic is scheduled for tomorrow at Caymanas Park starting at 3:00 p.m. The competition was organised by the Jamaica Domino Federation.
Mandeville New Testament win Church Cricket title
Mandeville New Testament won the second staging of the Power of Faith Ministries Twenty/20 Church Cricket League after a close one-wicket win over Power of Faith Seniors in the final last Saturday at Lime Tree Oval.
Power of Faith Seniors batted first and made 102-9 off their allotted 20 overs, with wicketkeeper/batsman Glenn Wellington topscoring with 28, and Derron Daley making 17. Mandeville's Jasford Gabriel led with the ball capturing 4-14, and Ryna Young had the next best figures of 2-15. Mandeville replied with 103-9, winning off the last ball, a leg bye. Chris Gayle topscored with 34. Michael Samuels (3-12), Jermaine Grant (2-12), and Robert Williams (2-31), shared the wickets.
Wanderers, Portsmouth in big clash
Wanderers (nine) will put their 100 per cent win record on the line when they take on home team Portsmouth (seven), in the feature match of a double header at the Portsmouth playing field tomorrow. Kick off time 3:30 p.m.
In the opening game at the venue, Greater Portmore (six) are expected to flood pointless Hellshire United at 1:30 p.m.
In other games, Independence City and Cumberland square off at 1:30 p.m. at the Naggo Head playing field, in what is expected to be a keen contest. Two hours later, Braeton United and Waterford search for their first points of the tournament.
At Watson Grove, the home team, Watson Grove FC, welcome Daytona in the 3:30 p.m. feature game at the venue, while, Naggo Head and Rodwood face-off in the opener at 1:30 p.m.
Hot Shots pool tourney
The Pool Tables and Billiards-sponsored Hot Shots 'B' class pool tournament is scheduled for Hot Shots Sports Bar, 103 Constant Spring Road on May 31 and June 1 starting at 4:00 p.m. each day.
The tournament offers a first prize of $35,000 and a trophy; second place $20,000 and trophy, third place $10,000 and trophy, while players finishing from fourth to eighth place will receive $2,000 each.

NCB Capital Markets Junior tennis
Shantal Blackwood won the girls 16 and under title in last weekend's NCB Capital Markets Junior tennis tournament held at the Liguanea Club, New Kingston.
Following the tournament last Sunday, Blackwood was presented with her trophy by Tanya Powell of NCB Capital Markets.
Other divisional winners were Micael-Ann Denton in the girls 14 and under, Randy Phillips in the boys' 14 and under, Andrew Bicknell in the boys 12 and under and Roger Lyn in the boys' 10 and under.
Berger Paints Super League netball
Jamalco and Waulgrovians 'A' won their quarter final matches in the Berger Paints Super League netball competition at the Leila Robinson Courts on Wednesday.
Jamalco, led by 30 points from 36 attempts by Margaret Lawrence and Elaine Davis 19 from 21 attempts, defeated Arnett Gardens 55 to 42 in one quarter-final, while Waulgrovians 'A' drubbed Tivoli 'B' 59 to 30 in the next. Kadian Mendez scored 27 from 38 attempts for Arnett Gardens.
For Waulgrovians, Suzette DeSouza scored 42 from 44 attempts, Simone Forbes 13 from 15 and Oberon Pitterson 12 for 17. For Tivoli, Patricia Chambers scored 17 points from 30 attempts.
SVL netball finals
The finals, closing ceremony and presentation of awards for the Supreme Ventures Division 'A' and Division 'C' netball competitions will be held tomorrow at the National Indoor Sports Centre starting at 3:30 p.m. Admission: adults $200; children $100.
ISSA/Grace rural U-15 cricket final
St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) and York Castle will meet in the ISSA/Grace rural Under-15 cricket title on Wednesday, May 28 at Manchester High School starting at 10:00 a.m. This is a one innings affair to be played on one day.
The STETHS senior team won the Headley Cup rural cricket title some weeks ago and also defeated ISSA/Grace Shield Corporate Area champions, Eltham, in the Spaulding Cup final for all-island schoolboy supremacy at Chedwin Park, recently.
