Orville Clarke, Freelance WriterIn a driving finish, JACK BE GOOD held on grimly by a neck from 4-5 favourite FUSILIER to win yesterday's holiday feature (claiming $470,000-$10,000) for the Labour Day Trophy over 1200 metres at Caymanas Park.
Offering odds of 9-2 with title-chasing jockey Shane Ellis riding for trainer Gresford Smith, JACK BE GOOD raced prominently in the early stages as FUSILIER made the early running under five-time champion jockey Trevor 'Slicer' Simpson.
Sent through at the halfway stage, JACK BE GOOD hung tough up the lane to turn back strong challenges from FUSILIER on the outside and the ever-present WE WILL SEE (14-1) on the inside leaving the furlong pole, scoring narrowly over FUSILIER, rallying at the finish. Nine ran.
Ellis, who had a second winner in 7-2 chance WIN POWER, was one of four jockeys taking a double.
The others were champion Omar Walker (Royal Flame, Sir Romel), in-form Dane Nelson (Racing Machine, Ac-compong) and Richie Mitchell (Littleredcorvette, Yamashita's Gold).
