5 Senses
published: Saturday | May 24, 2008

Melecia Brown, Gleaner Writer

(1) HEAR: Want to hear the gush of a cascading waterfall but none near enough to access? Sorry, can't help you! BUT ... if the sound of trickling water will do, then miniature waterfalls are a great way to soothe the spirit after a hellish day at work that makes you want to ... don't ... don't say it.

Close your eyes and be transported by the ooh-ahh gurgling stream in verdant paradise. Put it at your workstation or in a room at home as a 'natural' stress-reliever.

Availability: 3/5 Affordability: 2/5 Durability: 4/5

(2) SMELL: Whether it's to soothe, energise, relax or tantalise, a whiff of the right scented oil can take your emotions to another level! Pick from an array of scents from the Starfish line of oils, drop a 'tups' in an oil dispenser and dare to explore the range of things these oils can do for you! Better your sleep or bath pampering sans the cost of expensive spa visits.

Fragrance: 4/5 Availability: 4/5 Affordability: 3/5

(3) SEE: Want a quick way to impress the crowd, the boss, him or her? Give your vocabulary an instant upgrade with a handy thesaurus! Nothing's wrong with using the same words over and over again, albeit in the right context but sometimes you may be called on to show a little more edge.

Pleaaaseee ensure you use the words in the right context because, believe me, nothing is more embarrassing than a word misused. In this case, what you don't know will hurt you!

Availability: 3/5 Affordability: 5/5 Contents: 5/5

(4) TASTE: All patties aren't created equal. Introduce your taste buds to the scrumptious chicken patties of Brick Oven at Devon House and you may just be tempted to buy seconds and thirds!

Sure, patties have been around for decades, but the Brick Oven variety packs together the right balance of chicken, seasoned with real flavourful curry spice and coiled in a neat, intricate pocket, a departure from the monotonous shape of the regular brands on the market!

Flavour: 4/5 Nutritional content: 3/5 Affordability: 4/5

(5) TOUCH: This one could easily fit into any of our Five Senses categories - the rev of the engine, the feel of a smooth ride or the taste of ... . Well, let's not go there!

As for how it 'feels', BMW upholstery is comfy enough for a baby to fall asleep and sturdy enough for an alert driver. Next time you see somebody driving one, ask them to pull over so you can take a rub. It may cost you!

Design: 5/5 Material: 5/5 Affordability: Let's not go there!
