NOTE-WORTHY: Relevant period
published: Thursday | May 15, 2008

Relevant period

Prime Minister Bruce Golding is quoted in reports as saying eight months in office is of no relevance in assessing the performance of the former Minister Derrick Smith.

With all respect due to the prime minister, may I remind him that in the irrelevant eight months, more than 100 hundred Jamaicans per month or close to five Jamaicans per day have been murdered? May I remind him that the irrelevant eight months is nearly one-sixth of this government's term in office?

I would hope that the prime minister's comments were simply a political attempt to save face and that he really doesn't believe that eight months in office should be classed as irrelevant.

Curry goat team

The prime minister seems to think that the nation's business should be run like a curry goat cricket team.

Very entertaining for a while, but turns into a serious nightmare when faced with serious opposition. In this case, the opposition of crime, rising prices and unemployment.

For instance, the dismantling of Grants Pen Police Station because 70 officers are too many for the poor black people of Grants Pen. How many police personnel are deployed to protect the extra large Cabinet and other public officials? (They call it the protective services division.)

Rubbish!

Confession is said to be good for the soul. If you claim to confess and accept Christ, you are not only heaven-bound, but you can get a state pardon before you leave.

So, to all who are burdened by guilt for the crimes they have committed, in order to relief yourself of this burden, I encourage you to get baptised in a Christian-based faith, confess your wicked deed and call the Ombudsman Bishop Herro Blair.

He and some of his colleagues will petition our governor general to grant you state pardon for the crimes you have committed. They are doing it for ex-detective Lyn Sue. So, they will do for you. What rubbish!

Dental query

I read the article 'Protect your child's teeth from decay' with much interest. I saw where it was mentioned that the process of dental sealant is safe, painless and low-cost.

I am interested in this for my 12-year-old daughter and therefore called this dental lab and was told that it costs $2,500 per tooth. I was sort of taken aback because this is not cheap.

I would be most grateful if I could locate a dentist who charges less.
