NOTE-WORTHY: Farming contract
published: Tuesday | May 13, 2008

Farming contract

Housing and Agriculture ministers should come together, build houses and contribute, say, a minimum of ten acres of land only to those that are willing to sign a 30-year contract and willing to farm.

The ministers should also sign contract to ensure these farmers get value and market for their produce. A fraction of the farmer's salary goes to the payment of the house.

Taxi fares

I am concerned that since the increase in fares taxi drivers are not compliant with the 25 per cent. I have encountered situations in the rural area where the fare moves from $80 to $130.

I appeal to the taxi/bus drivers to remember that many individuals travel on more than one vehicle per day, some up to three to reach their destination. Use your conscience because we are all in the hardship together.

All vs crime

All Jamaicans must get involved in the fight against crime. They must advocate, march, write letters, and be proactive about the fight against crime.

In a few weeks the issue of capital punishment will take centrestage in the judiciary system, everyone must make their voice heard.

A complete overall of the penal system is a must if and when a decision is made. Everyone must get involved in this effort, after all crime-fighting is everybody's business.

Diehard allegiance

Politics (and hypocrisy) aside, many Jamaicans opt for dual nationality as a means to provide such things as a solid education for their children; i.e., part of being a responsible parent.

Further, I am yet to meet a Jamaican who regardless of whatever ills he/she may have suffered at the hands of the 'Little Rock' is ready to completely disregard his/her heritage.

In fact, it is this 'die-hard allegiance' that is so admired and envied by others. However, one would need to leave the shores of Jamaica to fully appreciate and understand this.
