Palmer receives report on water issues
published: Monday | May 12, 2008

Rayon Dyer, Gleaner Writer

A report that was requested a month ago by the Mayor of Black River and chairman of the St Elizabeth Parish Council, Jeremy Palmer, to examine the status of all catchment tanks in the parish has been submitted and repair work is to start on most of the facilities as soon as funds are available.

This disclosure was made by the mayor while speaking at the monthly general meeting of the council at the agency's meeting room in Black River last Thursday.

$12m being sought

Some $12 million is being sought from local government to repair and upgrade the over 80 catchment tanks in St Elizabeth.

Palmer said he would be making urgent representation to get the project off the ground.

To ensure adequate attention is paid to the matter, Palmer appointed councillor for the New Market division, Ernest Hendricks, the responsibility of tracking the progress of the venture.
