published: Saturday | May 10, 2008

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

THE QUARTER-FINALS of this year's Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Supreme Ventures 'A' and 'C' leagues takes centre stage today at the Leila Robinson Courts.

In the 'C' League, starting at 3:00 p.m., Duhaney Park Strikers oppose East Central and Jetsetters 'C' tackle Millennium Strikers. At 4:00p.m., Up Park Camp battle Bridgeport 'B' and Molynes United 'C' entertain Rollington Town 'A' at 5:30 p.m.

Coach optimistic

Meanwhile, Alpha will oppose Maxfield Park in the feature game of the 'A' competition starting at 6:30 p.m. Also at the same time, Hampshire 'A' face Ebony Strikers. At 5:00 p.m., Skibo 'B' await Blades United and Speg 'A' challenge Ravens 'B'.

Maxfield Park defeated Alpha earlier in the season and, according their coach Lascelles McIntosh, he is optimistic about his team's chances.

"We are confident but we are not going to take them lightly because it is going to be the team that plays the best netball on the day that is going to win the game," said McIntosh.

Expecting good show

"I am expecting my team to put on a good show because we have been playing good netball throughout the season and we hope to continue that," he said.

Dwight Sutherland, assistant coach of Alpha 'A', said: "We are very confident based on our game against them earlier in the season. We know what we need to improve on to come out successful.

"We played this team (Maxfield Park) in the preliminary rounds and we lost to them, so we know what to expect from them and we are prepared for that," Sutherland said.
