Power outage knocks out COK Champions Cup final
published: Monday | May 5, 2008

Ainsley Walters, Freelance Reporter

LAST night's City of Kingston Credit Union Champions Cup Knockout final between Waterhouse and Tivoli Gardens was called off during the half-time interval, with the score locked at 0-0, due to a power cut which plunged the Harbour View Mini Stadium and its environs into darkness.

Match officials afterwards confirmed the game was called off due to the uncertainty surrounding resumption of the public power supply.

The Jamaica Football Federa-tion's (JFF) competitions committee is due to meet today to decide a rescheduled date to either resume at the second half or rule for a replay.

Makes no difference

Tivoli's manager, Brian Rose, said he would be satisfied with whatever decision the committee makes.

"It doesn't make a difference," he said. "I will go with anything."

Waterhouse's Wayne Fairclough said it wasn't for him to say.

Earlier this season, a Premier League match between Arnett Gardens and St Georges was similarly called off with 15 minutes to play.

The competitions committee ruled that the final 15 minutes be played at a later date.

However, St Georges were left fuming on the day of continuation when Kwame Richardson, who was not on the original team list, was included and scored the winner in a 2-1 victory for Arnett.

Addressing the fiasco then, Captain Horace Burrell, president of the JFF, had said there would have been no such continuation. In the future, games would, instead, be replayed.
