Starting today, the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) will resume the towing of illegally parked vehicles in the municipality.
Following allegations of corruption among KSAC contractors, Kingston Mayor Desmond McKenzie sus-pended towing services in the Corporate Area in March.
He told journalists at a press conference last week that the report compiled by the committee, which was set up to investigate the allegations, has been completed. He, however, did not disclose the details of the report.
Visible ID
The mayor stressed that he wanted to make it clear that there was a set fee that the KSAC charges for the towing of vehicles, and that the wreckers contracted by the council would have visible identification.
"The names and telephone numbers of the contractors will be displayed clearly on the wreckers," McKenzie said. "We (KSAC) will not be responsible for any vehicle towed away by an unmarked wrecker," he said.
He also added that the KSAC and the police had no arrangements for the towing of vehicles.
"The pound will not accept any vehicle brought in by the police or any private wrecking company," McKenzie said.
He advised that the repainting of parking and no parking signs in the Corporate Area was already under way.
