Toddler shot dead
published: Monday | May 5, 2008

A toddler was among at least nine persons killed on a bloody weekend across Jamaica, with most of the violence centred in Kingston hot spots.

A shoot-out between the warring Africa Gardens and Jungle 12 factions in August Town yesterday afternoon left a toddler and another man dead, while two other persons are nursing bullet wounds in hospital.

Dead are 15-month-old Regina Williams and 23-year-old Narda Brooks, both of August Town addresses. Those injured were a 24-year-old male and a 41-year-old female.

The police reported that yesterday rival gangs fired at each other in the community, forcing residents and passers-by to scamper for cover. In the aftermath, the toddler and Brooks were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Bayshore Park, also in Kingston, was rocked by a double murder on Saturday night. According to police, residents heard explosions about 10:30 p.m. On the arrival of the police, the bodies of two unidentified men were found on a roadway in the community.
