The Editor, Sir:Further to the dual citizenship issue and the chief justice's ruling in favour of Abe Dabdoub, there is talk of early elections to resolve this problem from the Government's point of view.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding has hinted at this possibility, and there are strategists and opinion makers who have suggested that the present conditions are in the ruling party's favour to increase their seat count.
Maintained his stance
The calling of early elections may be justifiable, given the uncertainty regarding the other cases of dual citizenship and the close seat count. However, while in opposition Mr Golding had always maintained his stance regarding the need to have fixed election dates.
Under the Constitution, the prime minister has the power to call snap elections. Will he succumb to this temptation after all the talk of fixed election dates? Will he have a change of heart now that he has the power to possibly increase the government's majority in Parliament? Now that the shoe is on the other foot, we wait and see.
