Mother, daughter slain - 'It's the lowest dem man here gone now,' say residents
published: Friday | May 2, 2008

Latoya Grindley, Features Writer

Sitting in front of shops and houses, several women and a few men engaged in deep conversation on Balcombe Drive in west central St Andrew yesterday.

They were just coming to terms with the murders of 20-year-old Sashana Hall and her 45-year-old mother Bonito Taylor.

The two were killed at their house yesterday morning when gunmen invaded. The attack is believed to be linked to a feud between some residents of Balcombe Drive and another community.

Women now targeted

Several persons who spoke with The Gleaner were concerned that more women in the area are now being killed.

"It's the lowest dem man here gone now," said one male resident. Don't get the woman dem involved!" he charged.

A woman who lived a few blocks from where the murders took place said she was now fearful for her life because females were not being spared.

"Is four communities fighting against this one small community and is mostly woman live down here so is must woman them fighting against," she said.

The residents have now called for a police post in the area to watch over Balcombe Drive.

Over on Fagan Drive in Grants Pen, St Andrew, twenty-seven-year-old Sherema Walters and her boyfriend were shot shortly after he arrived at the house to take her to work.

She was pronounced dead at hospital. The condition of her boyfriend could not be ascertained.
