WESTERN BUREAU:RIU Hotels and Resorts says it will be resubmitting revised building plans to the St James Parish Council for its 700-room building under construction in Montego Bay, St James, which is said to have breached building regulations.
"Although RIU maintains that these revised plans were submitted to the parish council and approved, the sequence of events cannot be accurately reconstructed," the hotel chain said in a release yesterday.
Plans to be resubmitted
"Accordingly, RIU will resubmit the revised plans to the parish council who will forward copies to NEPA (National Environment and Planning Agency) and the other relevant agencies to have the three buildings with four storeys approved."
The statement was issued after a 14-day stop order was placed on the construction. The order followed a site inspection on Tuesday by a team of council officials, led by Mayor Charles Sinclair.
"The stop notice is to seek to get them to comply, and I understand that they have started to remove the things that are in excess height," Mayor Sinclair told The Gleaner.
