NOTE-WORTHY: Jamaica needs help too
published: Thursday | May 1, 2008

Jamaica needs help too

Today I was very happy to read about Jesse Jackson going to Haiti to help them out with the increasing food problems.

What about Jamaica? Jamaica is going through the same food crisis. So I say to Mr Jackson as an American we need to help the Jamaican people also.

In this time of crisis we are all suffering, but I know how bad my friends are suffering in Jamaica and it makes me sad every day to hear about the struggles they are dealing with on a daily basis. Something has to be done before Jamaica ends up as badly off as Haiti already is.

Day of prayer

I am calling on the churches and leaders in Parliament to have a day of prayer and fasting for Jamaica. What I mean is that all schools and business places be closed for just one day to attend these church services across the island, because it is time for God to take full control of the nation. In other parts of the world also citizens if your country is also in problem do the same. God bless you all.

Casino potential

The Government of Jamaica's decision to sanction casino gambling on the island is one of the best things that can happen to the country. However, it has to be done correctly. Casinos should be operated as they are in the Bahamas. They are only open to visitors.

This ensures that money realised from this venture is new money coming into the country and not currently scarce existing money being moved around. Imagine the possibilities which this new found wealth could bring.

Marketing tool

If Jamaica is to make a big push into the Chinese tourism market, them we must have casinos as part of our marketing tool.

Anybody that knows about the Chinese culture knows that the Chinese love to gamble; it is a big part of the culture. Jamaica cannot afford to pass up on casinos as a part

of its tourist package.
