WESTERN BUREAU:
SEBA UNITED'S bid to put as much daylight as possible between themselves and the bottom half of the 'relegation group' in the NPL got a major boost on Wednesday evening when they scored a come-from-behind 3-1 win against August Town at Jarrett Park.
Seba, who entered the game as joint leaders of the bottom group with fellow western team Village United, got an early scare when Alphas Bernard fired August Town into a 1-0 lead. However, the western team rallied back to take, maximum three points through goals from Kemar Mills, Ricardo Geddes and Kemar James.
"We came into this game knowing what we needed a win, so if when even August Town took the lead we were still confident," said Alrick Henry, Seba United's assistant coach. "We are hoping to take the momentum from this game into our other games."
Attacking in turns
The game started with both teams taking turns in attack but wasting good early opportunities. August Town finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when on a mission forward, Bernard pounced on a loose ball before the Seba United goal and, after controlling elegantly, turned sweetly and cracked a fierce shot into the roof of the net.
Finding themselves behind, Seba United went into overdrive and were rewarded in the 36th minute. The wily Mills nonchalantly waltzed by several defenders and calmly slotted home, making the score 1-1.
Seba took the lead in the 41st minute with another superb strike. On a spirited attack on the August Town goal, Geddes found himself with space and a clear shot on goal. He made no mistake, firing home easily to make the half-time score 2-1.
Seba struck again in the 61st minute when James capitalised on a series of blunders in the August Town backline and drilled a low shot past the goalkeeper.
