The controversial Sandy Bay High School, in Clarendon, is to be ready for September and is expected to accommodate some 240 students, according to Claude Stewart, head of School Facilities and Infrastructure in the Education Transformation Team (ETT).
Some 250 Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) students had to be reassigned to six other high schools in Clarendon and St Catherine last year, after they were placed at the Sandy Bay High School, which was not built. The ministry later conceded that the institution would not be ready because of problems of procurement and getting the necessary approvals.
"We have gotten the approval to build a prototype to accommodate some 240 students," Stewart told The Gleaner during an interview at the New Kingston offices of the ETT this week.
He added: "Then we will proceed to build out the normal school. This will incorporate the temporary building in a few years."
Stewart disclosed that the ETT was about to select the contract to start the building.
