DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Jamalco and Waulgrovians 'A' extended their unbeaten runs in this year's Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Berger Paints Super competition with victories over Tivoli Gardens 'A' and 'B' teams respectively at the Leila Robinson Courts at the weekend.
Waulgrovians 'A' thrashed Tivoli Gardens 'B' 60-26 to register their fifth straight win. National representative Simone Forbes led the scoring for Waulgrovians 'A' with 34 goals from 41 attempts and was backed up by Suzette DeSouza's 26 goals from 33 tries. Simone Rowe (14 goals from 25) was the leading scorer for Tivoli Gardens 'B'.
Fifth victory
Jamalco also registered their fifth victory of season with an exciting 44-38 win over Open Rally champions Tivoli Gardens 'A'.
"It was a good victory," said Wayne Shaw, manager of Jamalco. "We notice from half-time that we were much fitter than them and it was only a matter of time for us to seize control of the game.
"I must congratulate our three shooters, Elaine Davis, Marsha Murphy and Margaret Lawrence, because they were outstanding for us. Our defence also stood up well throughout the game."
Davis, a former national representative was the leading scorer for Jamalco with (17 goals from 21 attempts) and received good support from Margaret Lawrence (16 goals from 21 tries) and Marsha Murphy (11 goals from 15 attempts).
Cleopatra Grant (35 goals from 44 attempts) and Jodian French (three goals from seven tries) scored the goals for Tivoli Gardens 'A'.
Led the way
In the day's other games, Windalco edged Police 'A' 42-41. Petal Smith led the way for Windalco with (28 goals from 35 attempts) and she received support from Stacy-Ann Brown (12 goals from 15 tries). Niesha Howard, 26 goals from 32, was the top shooter for Windalco.
Jetsetters 'A' beat Arnett Gardens 41-40. Crystal Gordon (33 goals from 38 tries) and Annette Miller (six goals from 17 attempts) were the main scorers for Jetsetters 'A'. Kadian Mendez (28 goals from 49 tries) and Tracy-Ann Brown (12 goals from 21 attempts) scored the goals for Arnett Gardens.
