Divestment committee set up for Norman Manley airport
published: Wednesday | April 23, 2008

Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry gave the clearest indication yet that government would be pressing ahead with the proposed divestment of the Norman Manley International Airport when he announced the formation of a committee to oversee the process.

"The divestment committee is now being put in place to address this in terms of an analysis of all assets which the government will be looking to make available for private sector investment," Henry told reporters following a tour of the airport last week.

Upgrading works

He was being briefed on the upgrading works underway at the facility.

The other details, Henry said, would come from Prime Minister Bruce Golding.

The Minister said the process would require collaboration of a number of agencies.

The capital works underway at NMIA began in 2004.

The three-phase project, which is scheduled to be wrapped up by 2022, is costing US$100 million or $7.1 billion.
