This year marks the 14th anniversary of Portmore Week celebrations - an event that, over the years, has sought to focus on the businesses, talents and the geographic wealth that nature has bestowed on Portmore.
This year coincides with the 40th anniversary of the modern housing project in Portmore and under the theme, Honouring the past - Embracing the Future, we will, through our church service, Education Day, Economic Day, our displays and our forums, honour, give thanks and ask for divine guidance as we seek to build on the legacy of this great city.
We urge all, and Portmorians in particular, to support the week's activities.

A significant milestone
As Portmore grows into a great municipality, we must say thanks to God for taking us this far and for protecting us from the severity of major disasters.
Forty years in the life of Portmore is a milestone and we must acknowledge the collaborative efforts of our citizens who have contributed to the development of the municipality through various community groups.
We are proud to have our own community college, a HEART Academy, and other institutions which cater to our social and educational needs.
As we continue to develop the municipality, we are working towards building a hospital, acquiring an additional fire station and improving our police facilities. We are also looking at the possibility of having our own municipality building, a football academy and implementing our tourism product.
The future looks bright as we move forward in this Sunshine City.
God bless us all.

A rich history
This publication is just one of the many ways in which the newly formed Portmore Historical Society wants to awaken interest in the history of Portmore.
The history of the community is far richer than most people think. It includes the cave drawings of native Jamaicans, the landing of the English in 1655, the granting of municipal status in 2003, and much more. In May, we want to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the rebellion at Fort Augusta with a candlelight ceremony.
The society welcomes your input and membership. We have applied to the CHASE Fund to help us get a book published. We want to support an archive being established by the Portmore Community College and a film documentary in the works. Visit our meetings and learn more at www.portmore.info, or send an
email to webmaster@ portmore.info.
