John Mills won their 14th consecutive title as the Junior High Schools Track & Field Championships came to an end at the National Stadium yesterday.

The 16-time champions tallied 483 points to finish ahead of Windward Road (393.50), Calabar (293), Red Hills (156) and Swallowfield (100.50). Shortwood (85), Mico Practising (75), St Mary's (71) and Melrose (68) and Seaward (66) rounded off the top 10.

John Mills also topped the male and female sections with 249 and 234 points, respectively. Windward Road were also second in both sections with 201.50 points in the male division and 192 in the female category. Calabar finished third in both divisions, the boys getting 114 and the girls 179.

Good challenge

John Mills' coach, Ransford Spaulding, said: "It was a pretty good challenge this year, despite amassing 50 more points than last year.

"They (Windward Road) scared us a bit ... but our homework told us that we have motivational speeches to do, which we did and I can tell you it really helped us."

In action from yesterday's final day, Calabar's sprint pair of Keelia Parkinson (27.16) and Y-Nick Morrison (24.39) topped the Class One girls' and boys' 200m races.

Alicia Panton of Rock Hall and Terrol Jones captured the 800m/1500m double. Panton took the girls' 800m Open in 2:32.24 ahead of Tresana Wilson (2:34.01) and the 1500m in 5:32.28, also ahead of Wilson (5:38.13).

Jones (2:15.03) took the boys' Class One 800m event ahead of Javaar Lee of John Mills (2:18.06) and the 1500m in 4:48.93 ahead of Aaron Lee of Castleton (4:53.08).

Martel Brown of Windward Road was also a double winner. Brown (1.72m) won the high jump Class Two boys' event and long jump with a leap of 5.52m.

Calabar's Kevaughn Ellis (2:12.30) and Shavine McDonald (2:24.27) took the Class Two and Three 800m, respectively.

In the field events, Crystal Tapper of Red Hills (1.45m) won the girls' Class One high jump; Shacquille Linton of Calabar (5.00m) took the long jump Class Three; and Lamar Samuels of Calabar (5.61m) was victorious in the boys' Class One long jump.

Panton (18 points) and Terrol Jones (18 points) were voted overall champion girl and champion boy.
