Four clubs will battle for championship honours in a show of respect for a former national football stalwart at the annual Peter Cargill Memorial tournament, which takes place this evening at Harbour View Mini-Stadium, starting at 6:00 p.m.Waterhouse, Camperdown High, Pelicans and host Harbour View are the participants in the quadrangular masters series that matches each team against the other over a 30-minute duration.
Cargill, a former national coach and player who represented Jamaica during its historic qualification for the World Cup Final in France, 1998, was connected to all four.
As a schoolboy, he led Camperdown to the triple crown - Olivier Shield, Manning Cup, Walker Cup - in 1982, then played for Harbour View before coaching the team in senior competition.
He also played for Pelicans, a Masters League team, and coached Waterhouse in the National Premier League.
It was during his stint at Waterhouse in 2005 that Cargill passed away, as on their journey to a Premier League match in Montego Bay, the vehicle in which he was travelling met in an accident that proved fatal.
Since, the teams have honoured Cargill's contribution to not only their institutions but the game, to which access is free and under the sponsorship of Pepsi Cola.
