Jamalco, Tivoli A for tough battle
published: Saturday | April 19, 2008

Tivoli's Cleopatra Grant - File

Defending champions Jamalco and Tivoli Gardens 'A' will meet in today's big showdown of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Berger Paints Super League competition at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting 7:30 p.m.

Also at the same time, Jetsetters 'A' tackle Arnett Gardens.

In the day's other games, Tivoli Gardens 'B' entertain Waul-grovians 'A' and Windalco await Police 'A'.

Tivoli Gardens 'A' which had earlier defeated Jamalco in the Open Rally, are unbeaten this season with five victories and their coach, Sylvester Campbell, says he is expecting a keenly contested match.

Concentration

"We are going into a very tough game and so we just have to keep our focus and concentrate on what is needed to be done to win this game," said Campbell. "We have to be very careful in our attack and also on the defence because we don't want to get too carried away.

"I haven't looked at the Jamalco team this season because every year they are always the same. However, they are a very good team and anyone of us can win it."

The west Kingston-based-team will rest their hopes in the hands of its national representative, goal defence Kasey Evering, and their leading goal shooter, Cleopatra Grant.

Jamalco are also unbeaten and will be seeking their fifth consecutive win in the league.

Optimistic

Their manager Wayne Shaw is very optimistic of their chances.

"We are very confident of victory," said Shaw. "Even though they beat us earlier in the rally competition we know that we are going to get the better of them now because this is a much longer game now," Shaw said. Our team is much fitter now and the girls are also enjoying the training sessions and are raring to go."

They will be relying heavily on the likes of their national representatives Nadine Bryan at centre, goal defence Nicole Aiken and goal shooters Elaine Davis and Margaret Byfield.
