Balcarres win Portland U-19 cricket title

Balcarres are the 2008 West Portland Under-19 cricket champions following their eight-wicket victory over Fourth Generation last Sunday.

Final scores: Fourth Generation 102 in 17.2 overs; Balcarres 104 for two in 12.3 overs.

Sent to bat, Fourth Generation, led by Kirk Lee (33) and Rudolph Miller (22), battled to their total against the bowling of Diego Tyrell (3-22), Rolando Watson (2-26) and Demor Rowe (2-12).

In reply, Balcarres had little trouble in quickly reaching the target.

Orlando Watson led the way with 40 and was supported by Jamel Morgan (20 not out).

In a brief awards ceremony afterwards, Balcarres walked away with the champions' trophy while Horace Grossett of Fourth Generation was the leading run-scorer (208 runs) and West Port's Cean Jolly (13 wickets) claimed the bowling award.

Meanwhile, the Senior League is set to start on May 4. The organising committee will be having a captain's meeting tomorrow at Buff Bay Hospital at 10:30 a.m.

Albion Mountain found the consolation goal a minute later through Samantha Satherswaite, but it was too little to late as Oracabessa held on for the win.
