Honouring a giant medical field
published: Friday | April 18, 2008

The Gleaner's Karin Cooper has a warm greeting for Dr Charles Denbow after he received his National Honour.

One of the most outstanding members of the medical profession in Jamaica, Professor Charles Denbow, was on Wednesday bestowed with the national award for recognition of, and appreciation for, his continued commitment to the field of medicine.

The citation to him read in part: "Professor Denbow has made an outstanding contribution to the field of medicine and has offered distinguished service to this country as a professor of medicine. Throughout his career, he has devised creative solutions to promote medical research and improve the quality of patient care that we now offer in this country.

"Under Professor Denbow's leadership, many significant changes were instituted, and those who shared his professional aspirations will continue to influence the quality of medical care that his colleagues and students will offer.

"As a recipient of the Order of Distinction, Professor Denbow will have shared in common with other members of this Order a high level of achievement and a strong sense of purpose. He is keenly aware that diligence and the pursuit of excellence constitute the fundamental building blocks of a strong society.

"Professor Denbow's involvement in medicine as a leader, colleague, lecturer and friend, explains the esteem, respect and admiration which he now enjoys from the wide cross section of individuals who have come to witness this historic occasion."
