The Editor, Sir:I have been observing, analysing and listening to all the criticisms, comments, recommendations and suggestions regarding the education system. It is quite evident that the real problem facing the system is not being pinpointed or detected. I think the real problem is the employment of teachers, for example early childhood-trained teachers employed in secondary schools and secondary-trained teachers employed in early childhood schools.
Serious problem
Another serious problem facing the system is ineffective and incompetent school boards. There are many people appointed to school boards who do not understand the process of education and cannot make meaningful contribution to the schools.
The Ministry of Education and all stakeholders need to be more proactive in assessing these critical areas mentioned and make adjustments where necessary. Jamaicans are tired of talk and demand action in order to bring our education system up to world-class standards.
