NOTE-WORTHY: Western Union
published: Thursday | April 17, 2008

Western Union

I wish to call the attention of the Western Union authorities to the hardship created since their services are no longer available at all PC Banks; mainly at Golden Grove where the people of eastern St Thomas and Portland used to do business. Now, all the people doing business with the Western Union have to travel all the way to Morant Bay (Marville) and because of that, it is very difficult for customers to get through at a reasonable time. Two women waiting in line the other day fainted and had to be assisted by security guard Mr Marlon Pearce who deserves commendation. I wish the people at Western Union could see to the need of these people and bring back the services at Golden Grove.

Police overkill

Mr Carlos Hill is an entrepreneur. He is not known as a violent individual. To read in the press that to apprehend him there were "about 20 marked and unmarked police vehicles parked outside the property and several uniformed policemen armed with M-16 rifles milled around", one wonders if the show of force really necessary? One senior officer accompanied by two or three junior officers could have escorted him to the remand centre without all the brouhaha. At this time when gas price keep climbing and crime is on the upswing, the majority of these policemen with their M-16s could be better assigned to the volatile areas of Jamaica.

Carnival gyrations

The front page of The Gleaner on Monday, March 31, fills me with much concern. Here, we see a giant bull of a man, wedged between two almost completely nude women gyrating in carnival festivity. The apparent robust movement could easily completely denude one of the women in her frenzied movements. How can we raise alarms when our school youngsters perform sexual acts in our schools and at the same time our daily newspaper publishes this vulgar nudity? Aren't we going too far when we appear to blur the line between healthy fun and questionable taste?

Bruce like Mike?

Many of the policies of the Golding regime are the very same ones that Michael Manley proposed and they were branded as communist. The free education and health care are part and parcel of a socialist state. The zoning of agriculture and manufacturing are socialist ideas. What amazes me is that the true socialists say nothing about it. Look at how Mr Golding gesticulates when he speaks, it is the same way that the great Manley did. Listen how he spaces his words. I wonder if many JLP supporters are pleased with that.
