Upbeat WI keen to seal ODI series
published: Saturday | April 12, 2008

Dwayne Bravo - File

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

A sell-out crowd is expected to pack the Queen's Park Oval for the second Digicel one-day inter-national between West Indies and Sri Lanka today.

After a thrilling finish to the opening match on Thursday which West Indies won by one wicket off the final ball, there is anticipation that the home team can complete another victory to wrap up the three-match series.

West Indies will get plenty of support from local fans and scores of other nationals in the region who travelled to Trinidad for the two matches. Local authorities reported a few weeks ago that tickets were completely sold out for the match.

West Indies have a chance to close out the series by winning a second consecutive match ahead of the final game on Tuesday at the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia.

After pulling off an exciting win in which a six by Shivnarine Chanderpaul over deep mid-wicket off left-arm fast bowler Chaminda Vaas sealed the victory, Man-of-the-Match Dwayne Bravo said it put them in a position where they wanted to be.

"It is going to do our confidence well. It was a nail-biting win, but a win is a win and know we are 1-0 up," Bravo said.

"In our team meeting, we said we didn't want to go into thesecond match playing catch-up cricket. We wanted to start on a good note.

"We are a team that builds on confidence. Once we strive and we get the winning pattern going, we will be playing better. We are looking forward to a better game."

It is likely that West Indies will make a few changes to the team with a view to giving a chance to some of the other five players in their 16-man squad.

Opener Sewnarine Chattergoon, fellow batsmen Runako Morton and Kieron Pollard, wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin and fast bowler Daren Powell did not play in the first match and are all waiting an opportunity.
