Buccaneers seeking to tame Lions
published: Saturday | April 12, 2008

Anthony Foster, Freelance Reporter

Still smarting from last week's impressive performance, Trelawny Buccaneers face joint second-placed Manchester Lions in one of two key match-ups in this weekend's fourth round of the Jamaican Super League, the island's Semi-Pro cricket championship, at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

The Buccaneers, who narrowly missed taking first innings points from Melbourne last week in a no-result match, are in fifth position on five points.

The Lions also had a no-result last week against Kingston at Kirkvine.

Barbadians Kurt Wilkinson and Floyd Reifer, who both scored half-centuries last week, will once again lead the Buccaneers' batting, with support from Lorenzo Ingram, who has shone brightly so far with bat and ball.

weakened

However, this time around, the Buccaneers will face the Lions who are yet to drop first innings points. Despite that, they will be weakened through the absence of Runako Morton, who, after scoring a half-century in his first match last week, is now with the West Indies team in Trinidad for today's second One Day International against Sri Lanka.

Sulieman Benn, who played the opening match for the Lions, is also with the West Indies team.

This means that seasoned campaigner Donovan Sinclair, who has produced consistently over the past few years, opener Gary Graham, Ziggy Levy and captain Matthew Sinclair will have to pull their weight.

The other big clash of the round takes place at Sabina Park where host team Kingston Tigers will battle Melbourne Kangaroos over two days.

The Tigers, who welcomed back Barbadian Jason Bennett last week, will also have the in-form Jowayne Robinson and captain Simon Jackson in their line-up.

The Kangaroos though, who found themselves with their back against the wall last weekend, will want Carlton Baugh Jr and Yannick Elliott, who had earlier scored centuries, to rediscover such form, while Nikita Miller, who took eight wickets in an innings against the Buccaneers, will lead the bowling.
