published: Saturday | April 12, 2008

One of the victims of Thursday's shooting of 13 people in downtown Kingston succumbed to his injuries in the Kingston Public Hospital later in the night.

Dead is 35-year-old Herbert Smith of Mount Ogle in Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew.

According to police reports, about 3:30 p.m., several persons, including Smith, were standing at the intersection of Law and Church streets.

A group of gunmen travelling in a motor car reportedly drove up to the intersection and opened fire, hitting seven persons. The armed hoodlums then proceeded on to Gold Street where they opened fire, hitting six other persons. The police were alerted and the injured persons taken to hospital where Smith died while undergoing treatment.
