The tax administration has introduced a toll-free tax help service for persons in the United States to access information and assistance.

Persons are now able to call the tax authorities toll free at 1-888-GO-JATAX (1-888-465-2829) from anywhere in the US to speak with a taxpayer information specialist.

The Tax Administration Department says it is moving quickly to extend the overseas toll-free tax help service to the Carib-bean, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Locally, persons may continue to call 1-888-TAX-HELP.

The tax helpline is also equipped with voicemail.

In addition to making queries using the toll-free service, persons may also contact the tax help staff by email at taxhelp@tasd.gov.jm.

Email queries are answered within two days. The tax administration established the Tax Help Unit in January 2001.
