Lyn-Sue on bail
published: Thursday | April 10, 2008

Detective Constable Carey Lyn-Sue, who confessed to fabricating a statement against a murder accused, was granted bail when he appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Constable Lyn-Sue, who was not asked to plead, was offered bail in the sum of $20,000 in his own surety and is scheduled to return to court on April 16.

The prosecution has asked for time to view the file on the policeman to ascertain what charges will be laid against him.

The file was handed over to the court minutes before the start of the sitting.

Detective Constable Lyn-Sue, who is attached to the Area One Accident Reconstruction and Investigative Unit, is facing a possible charge of attempting to pervert the course of public justice.

He was suspended by the police commissioner after admitting that he made up the statements against the accused man.

Public attention

Lyn-Sue gained public attention in January after he confessed, under oath in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court, that he had fabricated a statement in the case against Jason James, who is said to be a member of the notorious Killer Bees Gang.

James is charged in connection with the April 1, 2006 gun murder of 23-year-old Sheldon Shaw of Retirement in Granville, St James.

The 'confessor' cop told the court that he decided to "be true to himself" as he is now a Christian.
