WESTERN BUREAU:
Jamaica Broilers Group is partnering with the churches to stage three mammoth outreach programmes called Best Dressed 50 Fest, which is celebrating the group's 50th anniversary.
The gospel fest will draw on the talents of prominent preachers and gospel artistes, both local and overseas.
Jamaica Broilers Group will be pumping $71 million into the project, president and CEO of Jamaica Broilers, Robert Levy, said.
"Firstly and foremost, I stand as a witness to the love of the Lord, but it is not solely about money as the sacrifice of many is also a part of the effort," said, Levy, a professed Christian, who gave a testimony to prayer and the success of his companies. He was speaking during the event's launch at the Wexford Hotel in Montego Bay on Tuesday.
President of the Jamaica Associa-tion of Evangelicals and co-chairman of the festival, the Rev Peter Garth, noted that this would be a landmark islandwide outreach programme.
Endorsed
"Never before has there been an outreach quite like this Best Dressed 50 Fest - a gospel and family festival which has been endorsed by all the umbrella church groups that are found in Jamaica," he said.
Garth listed the Jamaica Council of Churches, the Jamaica Association of Evangelicals, Church of God in Jamaica, West Indies Union of Seventh-day Adventists, Jamaica Pentecostal Union (Apostolic) and the Jamaica Association of Full Gospel Churches as partners in the effort.
Some of the gospel acts expected to perform are: Carlene Davis, Chevelle Franklin, DJ Nicholas, Prodigal Son, Papa San, Israel and new Breed, Omari, Toby Mac, New Generation, among others.
The event will include 80 medical professionals who will conduct seven medical clinics. Seventy labourers will tackle three community work projects in Trench Town, Flankers and Green Pond. The Farm and Flankers all-age schools and the Ambassador Theatre will be beneficiaries.
Forty workers will conduct basketball, netball, and football clinics in selected communities.
Throughout the period, volunteers will attend school assemblies and promote good lifestyle choices.
All events will be free to the public.
