With their chances of lifting the league title having all but slipped away, former champions Waterhouse will look to salvage something from the season when they face fellow top-flight representatives August Town in the COK Champions Cup quarter-finals today at the Drewsland Mini Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
However, battling for their very survival August Town, who are also determined to get something from the season, could be very tough opponents for the Drewsland team.
"They may be at the bottom of the table, but they have been playing well in their last few games, they have a good unit and we know they will be coming to win," surmised Waterhouse coach Wayne Fairclough.
'BEEN PLAYING WELL'
"Right now, we have to take it one game at a time. We have been playing well, but we just haven't been scoring. We won't be looking at today's game any other way, but we need to score some goals," he added.
In fact, though they are at the bottom of the league table, August Town may not be short on confidence heading into the game, having already knocked off Reno before registering one of the biggest wins of the competition, an 8-0 thrashing of Sandy Bay in the last round.
"We have been playing well recently, especially in this competition, and we are definitely going out there to come away with a win today," said Dwight Morgan, August Town assistant coach.
"Winning would mean a lot to us. We have worked hard all season. I think we are where we are because of concentration issues, not winning. So, winning today would really boost team morale," he said.
Having got a bye early, Waterhouse had little problems in their opening game, a 3-0 win over Albany.
In the day's other game, Humble Lion will hope to continue their fantastic run at the York Town Community Centre when they host Village United. Humble Lion knocked off parish rivals and premier league representatives Sporting Central 3-1 before getting by Duhaney Park 2-1.
The last non-Premier League team to lift the title was Naggo Head, who won the knockout competition in the 1996-1997 season.
Village opened their campaigning by getting past Manchioneal at home, before handing St Georges a rare 4-2 home loss at Lynch Park.
