The Editor, Sir:
I saw a recent advertisement extending an invitation to attend a meeting where attendees will receive anointed oil from the Holy Land, Jerusalem, and it has vexed my soul.
As a servant of the Almighty, I feel I have a duty to advise people to think about the things that they believe in. Many folks are seeking for miracles in their lives and thus, are likely to become gullible to all kinds of meaningless practices.
Many present-day evangelists' main objective is not necessarily broadcasting the good news of the gospel of Christ, but rather engaging in money-seeking activities. Oil from Jerusalem will do nothing for anyone spiritually if your will/heart is not fixed towards doing the will of the Almighty. What Jamaica needs are people striving and desirous of leading righteous lives. This is what ought to be preached and taught.
Then will God pour out His spirit and anoint with His blessings. It is written, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
I am, etc.,
