NOTE-WORTHY: Call to artistes
published: Wednesday | April 9, 2008

Call to artistes

Entertainers must distance themselves from all wrongdoing and seek to generate positive change as they have it in their power to do so. Dancehall is without doubt the most listened to form of music in Jamaica among the younger generation and so artistes have the capability to influence them through their music.

Artistes endeavour to become a Bob Marley icon. Be immortal like Bob Marley. What do you want to be remembered as? Someone who glorifies the gun, see women as objects and is involved with criminal elements? Or someone who instigate positive change?

You decide.

Helping the needy

Hi, my name is Diane Adlam. I live in the United States and I have been reaching out to the church in my old community New Market (Nightingale Grove Baptist Church) to send food and clothes to the needy people.

I have sent several barrels already but the church is not working fully with me. I need help in continuing to send these barrels. I would like to find a church or some person close to this area who would be willing to help in accepting these barrels and distributing the contents to the families.

Fears and prayers

Regarding the article on abortion published in The Sunday Gleaner April 6, it was very poignant and on time. Finally you are facing your fears. To paraphrase National Hero The Right Excellent Marcus M. Garvey - when you are afraid of something you should go towards it, not away from it ...

Do not forget: Almighty God (Jah) does not require sacrifice (except a broken and contrite heart ). The devil (that punk) does, those who sacrifice (knowingly or otherwise) are " ... saying prayers to the devil I say ... " (Bob Marley).

Congrats, St Jago!

The introduction of a Beenie Man song, "Well done, well done", is what I am now saying to St Jago High School for emerging victorious outdoing Glenmuir in the grand finale of the 2008 Schools Challenge Quiz.

It's a school coming out of the volatile Spanish Town area and they proved themselves to us that good can come from Spanish Town. It feels good to know that they are not only good sportswise but also academically. Congratulations, St Jago.
