C&W, Crime Stop renew ties
published: Friday | April 4, 2008

Cable & Wireless Jamaica (C&WJ) has renewed its support for the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica's (PSOJ) Crime Stop Programme for the third year running, with a donation of $2.4 million.

C&WJ's contribution was handed over on Wednesday by president and CEO, Phil Green, at the PSOJ's Job Creation Awards Breakfast, which was held at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.

The funds will be used to finance Crime Stop's marketing programme, which encourages citizens to report criminal activity in exchange for rewards.

C&WJ, which has been a sponsor of Crime Stop since 2005, has continued to sponsor the programme as part of the company's ongoing efforts to support the fight against crime and the promotion of national security.

"We believe that, as a major corporate entity, we have a responsibility to contribute in whatever way possible to those areas of Jamaican life where the needs are greatest, and for all of us national security is probably the greatest area of concern at this time," Green said.

"We are also encouraging other companies to support crime prevention because it is in our best interest, both as citizens and as business people, to have a safer society," he added.

In the last three years, Cable & Wireless Jamaica has contributed more than $19 million to various initiatives aimed at crime prevention and supporting the work of the security forces, including Crime Stop, the upgrading and improving of infrastructure at police stations and providing ICT support for the security forces.
