The Editor, Sir:
In today's Star (Wednesday) I was very heartened to see a report of an individual brought before the court and convicted for breaching the Noise Abatement Act. It is the first time I can remember hearing of someone being brought to book for this offence.
Let me hope that this is one in a series of steps being taken to restore order to our society. Congratulations to all those who did their jobs in this instance. Please keep it up.
Be aware, though, that there are those among us, who have a vested interest in continuing with the business as usual approach, and are not motivated to change. But the police and the judiciary must remain resolute in enforcing the rules we have agreed upon. We must become intolerant of those who feel they can do anything and nothing will come out of it.
So the problem must be tackled on all fronts simultaneously. In this way, we may be able to take back Jamaica from the criminals.
I am, etc.,
