The Editor, Sir:Catholic deacon Peter Espeut dedicated a whole column (Wednesday, March 18) to vilify 'someone name Claude Wilson', for 'having a problem with Christianity', stating that his "mission is really an attack upon Christianity itself", even as he graciously defended his 'right to be non-Christian or even anti-Christian'.
Claude Wilson did not misquote Mr Espeut, in fact, he agreed with much of his commentary but pointed out that the Easter celebration was also another example of anti-Christian practices in traditional Christianity.
He is neither non-Christian nor anti-Christian as you wrote in 'Carrying our Cross'. This may come as a stunner, but he is a baptised member of a Christian church here in Jamaica since 1993 and his membership is in good standing. It is a daily struggle, but he hopes that he's in good standing with the God of Abraham.
He sees the Roman Catholic Church as having led astray our people of African ancestry in embracing the traditions of Europe and their culture including Easter, Lent, and Christmas, pagan festivals. Black people, a people needing to read more, have been taught many falsehoods about the true God, Jesus Christ and the Bible with the promise that if we believe and turn the other cheek we will go to Heaven.
Well, since 1993 he no longer follows these false religions or takes their ministers seriously.
I am, etc.,
CLAUDE WILSON
