Meet the finalists in this year's Miss Jamaica Universe contest
published: Monday | March 31, 2008

Cherrion Ebanks

"I take my confidence and determined spirit from my sister. She rises above her difficulties and has in turn inspired me."

21 years old

5'6''

35-27-38.5

A nursing student at the University of The West Indies, Mona, Cherrion has a pleasant demeanour. She exudes a quiet confidence and is bent on not only helping others physically but spiritually, "I am a strong believer in the power of determination and self-motivation and I want to impress on our women that they possess a great wealth of untapped power within them and all they need to do is unlock it."

The B.B. Coke High past student spends her spare time reading books on health and listening to music.

Stasha Leon

"I signed up for Miss Jamaica Universe pageant because I am guided by the philosophy that real personal growth comes about when you trod unknown terrain."

26 years old

5'8''

35-28-38

A woman of many languages, interests and talents, Stasha Leon is nothing short of multifaceted. The French- and Spanish-speaking, cat-loving, law student (University of London) also plays the guitar and keeps an eye on the local and international football scene.

A firm advocate of preserving our region's rich culture. Stasha believes that our region's history is too rich to fade to black. "Our past as a Caribbean people has made us the rich melting pot of culture and vibrancy."

Borzana Jones

"I got into teaching because I love to make a positive impression on others. By competing in this pageant, I hope to leave an indelibly positive impression on the world and our island."

25 years old

5'9''

36-27-37.5

A grade 10 geography teacher at Belair High School, Borzana is the only teacher in this year's MJU group. A Northern Caribbean University graduate, Borzana says her childhood dream was fulfilled the day she received her degree. An animal lover, she plans to further her education by becoming a meteorologist, but still hopes to lecture.
