The Jamaican Institute of Management (JIM), the pioneer management development training institution in Jamaica celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
To commemorate this occasion, JIM will be hosting a number of events culminating with the 17th Management Convention from April 10-12 at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston, under the theme "Managing for the Future".
According to Dr Alfred Sangster, executive chairman of the JIM, "the theme for Convention 2008 emerged from my association with the World Future Society over the past several years as a member and the tremendous insights that I have gleaned during my period of association with the society, into world future trends and forecasts relating to economics and finance, demography, environment, technology, society and government. We are hoping that we can launch a Jamaican chapter during the convention."
Speakers
Sangster said the event would see a convergence of quality speakers on timely subject matters to address professionals in management development and to explore aspects of management including finance (portfolio), human resource, occupa-tional health (environmental risks, regulations), financial risk (white collar crime), and entrepreneurship.
"The experts will guide the participants as to what to expect in the future in relation to the areas to be covered," he said.
Besides presentations by guest speakers, the forum will cover a diverse range of related topics at the highly interactive plenary and concurrent sessions. A contingent of Jamaican and regional presenters will explore topics that are indigenous to the region and will create the correlation of issues into the global framework and future expectations. The sessions will highlight JIM's strong commitment towards the development of management and perceptions of how to equip the manager for the future.
