Thursday talk - HOTTEST TOPICS ON THE COCKTAIL CIRCUIT
published: Thursday | March 27, 2008

Catfight!

1. She seem to have a thing for husbands, other people's husbands, that is, especially those in high places. Well, the wife, not being a pushover, would have none of it, so the two came to blows recently, which left the wife sporting a few scratches and bruises after the encounter. But more to come, as the wife is not satisfied that the lesson she tried teaching was learnt.

Couldn't make the cut

2.Some colleagues are saying this diplomat was more than a little miffed at not making the cut for the recent official dinner. The thinking here being that this envoy had raised a substantial enough amount of funds for one of the visitors' causes to have stood them in good stead on the visit.

Waiting for the call

3.Seems like some who thought they were destined for political upward mobility with the change are still sitting by the telephone waiting for it to ring and bring some news of some official appointment. Word is they are being told that they should continue waiting, as it will soon happen. They, however, are not convinced, as they want their cases to be looked at with the same dispatch as the daughter and god-daughter.

Where is she now?

4.Remember the niece from the other administration? Word is that she is now with the new offshore banking operation.

Under siege

5.The residents of the distressed community are none too happy that it took the death of one of their colleagues to bring the police out to try and restore some order in the community. They say they have been under siege for the last six months as opposing factions have been going at it in the hopes of controlling the community and the political patronage.

Too much frisking

6.The employees are objecting to the many lie-detector tests they are being subjected to, as this is on top of all the other security safeguards with which they contend daily. They say the constant frisking and physical searches of their persons and properties is nothing but abuse, and they want it stopped.

True worth hidden?

7.Seems like the ex-wives are wising up and are getting better lawyers since the recent landmark case, as at least two former wives to high-profile fortunes are now suing for more than they settled for, claiming their former husbands kept their true worth hidden from them during their marriages.

Not so prompt anymore

8.They say his subsidy included providing petrol for their motor vehicles for several years, as well as partying rights on some of the properties, while they were in the wilderness. Now his calls are not being returned with the usual promptness, he is more than a little peeved.

Where is the office?

9.When will the promised office for the leader of the opposition be provided?

That highly perched property

10.The wife has been bragging of their acquisition of the highly perched property for some time now. The neighbours, however, are none too sure about that, as they are yet to see any sign suggesting it will be occupied any time soon, despite lots of onsite visits and champagne popping by the couple.
