Reagan on abortion
published: Wednesday | March 26, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I find the supporters of abortion rights very vocal on this issue. One of your readers went as far as to compare Barbados' record on the subject matter to that of Jamaica's in political terms such as conservative, etc. Where and when did the people of Jamaica ever ascribe such a term to Barbados?

I find it ironic that Jamaica, with its record of strident social conservatism such as anti-gay, anti-gambling and anti-abortion cited by Frederick E. Nunes as being anything but conservative. Perhaps, Mr Editor, it would do you well to advise Mr Nunes as to the meaning of the word 'conservative', lest he be unaware.

As for the issue of abortion, I'll leave your readers with this quote: "I've noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born." - Ronald Reagan, quoted in New York Times, September 22, 1980. Enough said!!

I am, etc.,
